Brunswick, and res. Hampstead, Queens Co., New Brunswick.

Of New York. A native of America, Golding had a tenant farm on Cortlandt Manor consisting of 300 acres, with some improvements. He joined the British in 1776, and served as a lieutenant under colonels Barmore, Hatfield and DeLancey
for four years. He then left his regiment to support his family.

Golding settled afterwards at Long Island, on the St. John River. He was the brother of Joseph Golding (q.v.). John Golding claimed a loss of L190 sterling and received L90 sterling.

In the Name of God Amen. I John Golding of the Parish of Hempstead and county of Queens and Province of New Brunswick - being weak and feble in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, calling unto mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die. I do make ordain and appoint this my last will and Testament, that is to say. principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the Hands of almighty God, and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors herein after named and touching such wordly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in the world.

I Give devise and dispose of the same in Manner and form as followeth /viz/ first I give and bequeath to my wife Anna Golding the use of one hundred acres of my land that I now live on adjoining Joseph Hewletts land that is to say the upper half of Lot No: Twenty granted to Leonard Slip. and the use and benefit of my Intervale Land on long Island being known by lot number 12. and 13. as long as she remains my widow. and I give to my wife Anna Golding the use and benefit of two Cows and Six Sheep two Horses and all my farming utensils and one half of my household furniture as long as she remains my widow,
and after her death or Marriag the same returns to my Estate for division. Secondly I give and bequeath to my daughter Phoebe Golding two Cows. six Sheep. and one half of my household furniture. to be her own forever. and I give and bequeath to my Daughter Phobe Golding. fifty pounds to be paid to her at my wifes deces and my daughter Phoebe to live with her Mother till my wife Deces Thirdly, I give to my Son Abraham Golding five shillings. to his own forever. fourthly I give to my Son Stephen Golding twenty five pounds money of the said Province to be his own forever - fifthly I give to my Son Thomas Golding ten pounds to be his own forever Sixly I give to my Grand Son Daniel Smith a Son of Stephen Smith twenty five pounds to be his own forever Seventhly I give and bequeath to my three Daughters. Namely Fanee. Aanna and Lucreece
twenty fives pounds cash money of the said province to be their own forever. Eighly I give to my Grandson Elias Gerow twelve pounds ten shillings to be his own forever ninethly I give to my Grand Daughter Sarah Golding twelve pounds ten shillings to be her own forever. tenthly and if my executors named hereafter. shall think it best to sell my land on long Island and give my wife the Interest of the Money as long as she remains my widow. I give then full power to do the same. and after all my just Debts, dews and demands is paid. if there should be any of my Estate remaining. I give and devise the same to be equally divided. Stephen Golding and my four Daughters. namely Fanee Peters, Anna Vanwart Phoebe Golding. and Lucreece Gerow and the same to be their own forever: but none of my Estate to be divided untill my wifes Deces. And I give my Executors full Power an Authority to recuse and recover all my just Debts dues and Decison do make and ordain an appoint my wife Anna Golding and my Son Stephen Golding and my trusty friend Gilbert Merrit my Sole executors. to take care and see that this my last Will and Testament be performed with according to my true interest and meaning in Witness whereof the said John Golding as my last will and Testament have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eleventh day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty one.
