[333] He was one of the Commissioners for certifying the Chantry lands in Essex; and he knew how to improve that opportunity, by getting a very large share of them; which gives me occasion frequently to mention his name in the course of this work. He was Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire in 1561, and of Essex alone in 1569 (Morant, Essex, v. ii p. 328).
